Review: ABP Triple Synergy Liquid (Purito)

Purito ABP Triple Synergy Liquid Kbeauty Review

A few months ago, I was made aware of a new, up-coming Korean skincare brand called Purito; they pride themselves on investing in quality ingredients that are safe for sensitive skin types, rather than the glitz and glamour of gimmicky packaging and endorsements. I have used a handful of their serums and, aside from one that I didn’t find too remarkable nor bad, I have had a good experience with their products.

They are a fairly new brand and, aside from on their official website, are also stocked at a handful of online distributors, including: BeautyTap, Althea, YesStyle, RoseRoseShop and IBBI.

The product that I’ll be writing about today is the ABP Triple Synergy Liquid, which is selling for USD$21 on the Purito website, a chemical exfoliant that uses a combination of AHA, BHA and PHA. Personally, I found that it was gentle enough for daily use but, perhaps because it is also formulated for sensitive skin, it was a little bit too gentle to see more dramatic results.

Either way, let’s get right into this review!

Packaging

As with the previous Purito products, the packaging of them is quite simple and basic. Although I would prefer if they had a better packaging design, something more elegant and luxe, I do understand their brand concept and I would prefer that they are investing in the formula.

That being said, the packaging of this ABP Triple Synergy Liquid is very easily functional. It comes in a transparent, frosted plastic bottle that gives you a good view of the product inside (so you know how much you have left) and a pump dispenser – it isn’t super smooth but is sufficient enough and doesn’t create any mess. It is also relatively light with a cap, so you can either decant or take the whole bottle for travel.

Overall, I have a very meh feeling about the packaging. I don’t love it but I don’t find any real flaw in it. Instead, I prefer to discuss the formula – since that is the main selling point of the brand, not a fancy bottle.

Product Claims

A chemical exfoliation, which uses AHA and BHA, is done in order to remove dead skin (which is a natural occurrence with the skin’s turnover but can cause uneven skin tone and clogged pores). However, overuse of it (or a formula that is too acidic) can trigger dryness or tightness of the skin due to loss of moisture. The ABP Triple Synergy Liquid aims to counteract these flaws. It claims that “because the product contains naturally derived supplementary ingredients including panthenol and sodium hyaluronate, skin remains moist and without tightness, even after exfoliation.”

In addition, Purito products only use ingredients with a 1-2 EWG rating, making it safer for sensitive skin use.

Here are some points on the ingredients:

AHA + PHA

  • Removes old dead skin from the surface
  • Water-soluble (and therefore cannot penetrate through oil)
  • Suitable for normal and dry skin types
  • PHA rarely produced photosensitivity, so it safe for day time use
  • Effective in tightening pores after removable of dead skin

BHA

  • Fat-soluble and therefore can penetrate pores to remove waster (sebum, blackheads etc)
  • Effective for oily skin or oil balance
  • Is gentle enough for use on sensitive skin, as it is non-abrasive

The use directions for this product is fairly simple and straight forward. It is to be used after a toner (wait until that is fully absorbed). You can either saturate a cotton pad and swipe it over your face – which is my preferred method – or pat in the product from your palms. I find that using a cotton pad for any AHA/BHA gives better exfoliation and also helps to cleanse the skin.

Personal Experiences

I used this product for a good length of time (around 2-3 weeks) and definitely saw some improvement in skin tone. It also kept my skin very well hydrated and I saw no sensitivity even from using it every night – I don’t tend to use any acids during the day regardless. It absorbed well into my skin and also fit in easily to my skincare routine – I used it after my toner, and then used my serums and emulsions afterwards.

However, I didn’t see much improvement in my blackheads and the oily production on my nose. I feel like this product might have been a bit too gentle for my skin type in this regard – I have quite large pores with a lot of oil production in my t-zone, so blackheads and clogged pores have been a personal issue for many years. That being said, people with sensitive skin or those who want something very mild may be satisfied with the results though.

So, here’s my verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A chemical exfoliant using AHA, BHA and PHA

THE GOOD

  • EWG green level ingredients
  • Simple packaging suitable for travel (and easy to decant)
  • Gentle formula suitable for sensitive skin
  • Balancing of AHA/PHA and BHA (oil and water soluable)
  • Keeps skin well hydrated even with daily use
  • Easy to use and absorbs well
  • No preservatives

THE BAD

  • No preservatives – means the product don’t last as long
  • Average packaging design
  • Subtle improvements in blackheads and oil control

RATINGS

  • PACKAGING | 3/5
  • PRICE POINT | 4/5
  • SKIN TONE IMPROVEMENT | 3/5
  • OIL CONTROL | 2/5
  • HYDRATION | 4/5

OVERALL RATING? 6.4/10

WOULD I RECOMMEND?

I find that this product is a bit similar to their Vitamin C Serum for me – it is nice on my skin, and I will continue to use it for the subtle results (and also because I have no bad reactions to it either). However, it is a very gentle formula that is a bit too mild for my skin type. I would instead recommend this to someone with more sensitive skin, which this product is specifically formulated for.
