Review: Aqua Hyaluronic Acid Water Drop Cream (Elizavecca)

Elizavecca Aqua Hyaluronic Acid Water Drop Cream

I’ve been slowly getting back into the swing of doing these reviews so, hopefully, they will be more regular soon enough. I took a bit of time before and during my trip to test a lot these upcoming products since – being skincare – I wanted to be able to give a good review that consisted of more than initial thoughts.

So I have been really lucky lately to be collaborating with Elizavecca. You have most likely heard about their brand before – they went viral a while ago for their interesting bubble masks and the intense hell-pore mask (which I have previously reviewed here). For today, I’ll be introducing to everyone their Aqua Hyaluronic Acid Water Drop Cream – a total mouthful, so from here on I’ll just refer to it as Water Drop Cream.

This is a light weight but highly moisturising cream that, in my opinion, is perfectly suited for the summer weather. It’s special feature is the visible ‘water droplet’ effect when the cream is lightly rubbed onto the skin. I found that it was great to use under make up because it is fast absorbing and leaves skin feeling smooth – also, we all know I’m a sucker for hyaluronic acid. In addition to hydrating our skin, it also had red ginseng extract which had great anti-aging benefits.

So here’s the packaging that it came in. The box is a very simple design, nothing too flashy, but I love the illustration. Elizavecca is known for their super cute and somewhat punny designs, so I was really amused by this photo of the girl into a water droplet. The typography is a little bit junior, but I think that this is something that can be appreciated regardless.

The packaging means that it is best suited for the younger audience though, perhaps twenties and under, which has always been their target audience. At 18,000 won full price (it is currently on sale too), this is definitely an affordable and effective option for the younger crowd.

Opening it up, the tub is a frosted white and it’s really pretty. Compared to the box, which has a cute but a little bit childish illustration, the approach to this design is more elegant. Although it still has the same picture, it looks classier (actually, classier than I personally expected). The material is a bit heavy and thick, so it’s very secure though can add a bit of weight if you want to take this on travels. It screws open (and closes tightly) with a hygienic lid on the inside too, so that’s alright as well. This doesn’t come with a spatula though so you can use another that you have – I personally have heaps of plastic spatulas just sitting around.

So below is how it looks on my hand: first applied, lightly spread and then lightly rubbed in. I find the texture of this gel to be really interesting. The colour is a bit frosty and, at first sight, looks a bit like an oil sherbet cleanser. For that reason, I expected it to be a bit more dense and to require more spreading. However, the cream is very soft and light, doesn’t drip and actually feels more like the G9 White in Whipping Cream than a gel cream. It isn’t very cold to the touch.

As you can see in the photos, it really does change into water drops when it’s rubbed in! I didn’t think that the effect would be so dramatic. It’s actually really fun to see and it doesn’t need to be rubbed in hard. In fact, I think it might be the warmth of your fingers that sort of ‘melts’ it. The resulting product is really light, absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave any residue. It’s perfect for use under make up – especially for someone like me who is really time restrained to wait for this to soak in. The gel formula hydrates without being greasy but, for that reason, this cream is best suited for combination to oily skin. Very skin complexions might not get enough hydration from this.

This cream is very effective and easy to use alone. However, since it does require a rubbing motion, instead of patting, and because it is so light, this cream is actually suited for use at the beginning of your skincare routine instead of the end. I’ve been using this cream a lot since it’s summer here and my skin has become much more oily. It’s done a good job to providing just enough hydration to the drier areas of my face without clogging up my T-zone.

Here’s the verdict!

THE GOOD

  • Cute packaging
  • Secure and good quality tub
  • Interesting soft texture
  • Water droplet effect makes for faster absorption
  • Has red ginseng extract
  • Affordable
  • Quick and easy to apply
  • Absorbs fast!
  • Versatile (can be used day and night)
  • Hydrates well and is suitable for oily-combination skin

THE BAD

  • A bit heavy for travel purposes
  • No spatula

WOULD I REPURCHASE?

I really enjoyed this product and I’ll definitely have it on a list of possible repurchases (though we all know I have 150 creams to try still). I would easily recommend this for someone who wants a simple and versatile product, especially those who are short on time and wants a product that absorbs fast. The affordability is also a great factor. In fact, I’m considering buying this as a gift for some people.

HELPFUL TIP

Multi-step skincare routines can be quite daunting with all of these product names and formulas but, in my opinion, the best way to think of it is like a mask – it’s all about thickness and absorption. Put the products that absorb and evaporate quickest first and then heavier creams (which stay on your face for longer) at the end.
