Review: Neulii

Roseroseshop Neulii Kbeauty Skincare Korean Review

I’m back with another review, everyone! This is going to be a review on a set of three serums that I was sent by Roseroseshop – also the owner behind this indie brand. Today, we’re going to be looking at Neulii, their self established skincare line. RRS is an online store that specialised in Korean Skincare and Make-up so it’s not a big leap for them to move into developing their own line. From my conversation with their Marketing Manager, I am also very confident that they know what they’re doing.

I had no hesitation in trying their products, and I’m glad that I did.

Neulii’s name stems from the Korean characters of Neul + i, meaning ‘Always’ in Korean – 늘이(렇게) for those who are interested. Their goal is to merge both quality and affordability, resulting in what can be considered a ‘no frills’ version of Korean skincare.

For this review, I have been sent three of their current range – AHA Vita Brightening Serum, Teatree BHA Blemish Control Serum and Snail Bee Anti-Wrinkle Serum.

Their packaging is very simple with a rather modern approach. For its price, I think that the Neulii range has quite a classy look to it. They don’t over-ornate, and express a sort of quiet elegance through their detailed branding and typography.

Each different product is colour coded – yellow, green and red. Also available on their website is light blue (Aloe BHA Soothing Serum) and black (Greentea BHA Pore Tightening Serum). The relation between the product and colour means it’s easy to pick out exactly what you want, even though the packaging and design for all of them are very similar.

All three of the boxes are up there for you to see but let’s move onto the actual product. As you can see in the above photo, the serum bottles are a lot bigger than I expected (and am used to). The height is approximately from the base of my palm to the tip of my middle finger, i.e it’s big.

It comes in a semi-transparent frosted bottle with a colour coded label, so you can keep track of exactly how much product you have left. Unlike the usual ‘dropper’ applicators though, this serum uses a pump system which has both pros and cons.

I find it a lot easier to use the pump because it’s very quick and I can get it right onto my palm and, well, go pat. Their formulas are also more watery than the others I have used (mostly It’s Skin Power10) so this sort of pump definitely suits it best. The only con though is that it’s harder to control how much you use and, at times, my pump gets a little stuck which causes it to ‘splat’.

The AHA Vita Brightening Serum has a Ph level of 3.8 and uses Vitamin C as their main ingredient (through Apple!) I love Vitamin C serums, really. Even if I’m too lazy and tired to use everything else, I would generally reach for my Power10 VC. This Neulii serum is quite watery and I would use around 2 – 3 pumps of it to really saturate my face.

There’s a slight scent but it’s rather pleasant. The serum also absorbs and dries very quickly, which is good for people who use their serums in the morning and hate having to wait eternity for it to dry. After using this serum for a few days, I think that my complexion had brightened up a little but it’s too short to see a remarkable change.

The Teatree BHA Blemish Control Serum (PH 6.3) is probably the most raved about from anyone who has used the Neulii serums. People have said that this solved most of their acne or break out issues very quickly, and I can see that it has worked on my skin. When I first started using this, I had two pimples that were due to trapped oil in my pores (this was a result of a mask I had been testing) and, once I started using this serum, it disappeared in around two or three days.

That being said, I do have one pimple that has persisted even though I’ve been using this everyday. However, that one seems to be due to hormones rather than blocked pores, so I have a feeling that that might be influencing it? However, aside from that one, this serum has stopped any other breakouts that I would usually at this time of the month.

The Snail Bee Anti-Wrinkle Serum (PH 4.2) was, to be honest, the one I thought I would have the least use for. At 24, the only fine line I have is a single one between my eyes, so I haven’t looked much into using anti-wrinkle products yet. Surprisingly though, this one turned out to be my favourite! The reason for this is, rather than preventing wrinkles, I’ve been using this to moisturise and lightly treat my dry skin. This serum uses snail slime extracts as well as Propolis to prevent wrinkles, but I found that these two ingredients also hydrated my skin.

Unlike the other two, which were very watery, this one is more dense in formula. When applied, it’s actually a little bit slimy – like the snail slime extract I suppose – but it dries quickly and doesn’t leave a sticky residue. Out of the three, I would suggest to use this one last as it seems to be the ‘thickest’.

And that’s all three of them, guys! Here’s the final verdict:

SO WHAT IS IT?

A range of good quality but affordable skin serums.

THE GOOD

  • Affordable and available at a reliable store (RRS is one of my fabourites)
  • Large bottles (100ml each)
  • Semi-transparent bottle allows you to see the product clearly
  • Clean and well-considered design
  • Absorbs quickly and does not leave a sticky residue
  • Easy to dispense
  • 4 Free (free from parabens, phenoxyethanol, artificial colours and flavours)

THE BAD

  • Difficult to control the amount pumped
  • Pump can get stuck at times
  • Scent can be a bit ‘medicinal’ but is not overbearing and fades quickly

WOULD I REPURCHASE?

So far so good, I say. At this rate, I would definitely continue to use this product though I don’t think I am ready to put down my Power10 serums yet. I think that these are good to keep around for those nights when you want a simple and fast skincare routine – these serums are easier to dispense and faster to apply/absorb than most. They’re also good to use under make up and, in my opinion, very well suited to beginners.

If you’re just getting into skincare and don’t know where to start, start here!

HELPFUL TIP

When applying skin serums, apply your lightest product first – the one that will absorb the easiest and, generally, has higher water content. As you move on, then apply your thicker, heavier products. This is the ‘layering’ technique of Korean skincare.

WHERE TO GET IT FROM
