One of my absolute favourite skincare ingredients after Vitamin C, is most definitely Hyaluronic Acid – and I’m sure that I’m one of many. Hyaluronic Acid (or HA) is an essential part of your skin, one that gradually depletes as skin ages allowing for wrinkles and dryness. So, it only makes sense that we support our skin by returning this essential ingredient. HA is most well known for it’s hydration properties. Being able to hold up to 1000 times it’s weight in water, it essentially helps with water retention and can give your face a plump, healthy and hydrated appearance. Because of this, it naturally also helps with refining skin/reducing wrinkles and – allegedly – also helping it to recover from acne or other skin issues.

Now, I know that that first part read like a text book entry, but bear with me because after learning the importance of Hyaluronic Acid in your every day routine, I also want to now go on and introduce a product from Purito called the Pure Hyaluronic Acid 90 Serum! I was given the opportunity to try out a couple of their products and this is the last one that I will be trialling this time around. With all of their products being 10 free (i.e no parabens, ethanol, surfactant, artificial colourant etc) and being made from natural and skin-safe ingredients, their brand would be perfect for this sort of product.

Hyaluronic Acid is the type of product that I would aim to implement into my daily routine. I tried this product out over the course of two weeks and I saw very obvious improvements in my complexion versus on days when I didn’t use it. I really think that this is a simple and very effective HA product! It is currently selling on the Purito website for USD$16.15 but… before I send you to the website, here’s my full review!

Product Claims

If you’d like to read about the packaging of this product, please feel free to check out some of my other Purito reviews (because all of their serums have essentially the same packaging). Instead, I’m going to skip straight to talking about the product – because this is the interesting stuff.

The claims for this product is fairly simple and straight forward:

  • It contains 90% Sodium Hyaluronate
  • 99% natural ingredients
  • Also contains Vitamin C and Aloe Vera extract
  • Has a whitening and anti-wrinkle effect that is KFDA approved
  • Is cruelty free

It also claims to be a all-in-one serum but, since it’s main focus is in hydration, I still use my usual whitening products in addition to this. Whether you think this is sufficient for your skincare routine is totally up to you. Personally, I decided to work it into my night routine (for reasons that I will discuss later).

As I mentioned earlier, Hyaluronic Acid is a natural part of the human body which gradually depletes. The ingredient found in this product, Sodium Hyaluronate, is part of HA and it is something that is found in the connective tissue of people. I can write a lot about the medical and scientific information on this product, but the gist of it is that it is natural and will basically help your skin bind water molecules. The reason that skin becomes dry is that these molecules are lost, meaning that you are not retaining water – and this will be a natural occurrence as your skin ages. Topical application of HA aims to replenish what is lost, helping your skin to keep hydrated and therefore maintain it’s youthfulness.

Application and Personal Experiences

Working this product into my skincare routine was really easy, because I have always reached for HA products anyway – whether that is through serums or sheet masks. Personally, I didn’t feel an incredible difference between this product and others, but I feel like those with more sensitive skin will. I like that Purito is very transparent with the ingredients that they put in their products but, even for people who will be sensitive to HA product (fun fact: this could have to do with the molecular weight of the Hyaluronic Acid, as smaller molecules will penetrate too deep while mid-sized molecules stay in the skin barrier) – I would be comfortable recommending the Pure Hyaluronic Acid 90 Serum.

Since this product is primarily Hyaluronate Sodium (90%), the texture of it is quite interesting. This ingredient is naturally very viscous and that’s evident in the final product. It has a thick consistency, which is somewhere between water and a gel. It is clear in colour with no obvious scent, and is a bit slippery when you apply it over the skin. It takes a moment to absorb, but doesn’t leave too much of a sticky residue. You can definitely feel it on your skin after you apply it though and, perhaps because of the Aloe Vera extract, it also has a cooling sensation. I find that a good HA product actually skims on the surface of your skin and absorbs gradually.

I apply this after my toner and then top it off with another whitening serum and my other skincare products. I did try this as part of my day routine too, but I found that it took too much time to fully absorb. Unfortunately, it caused extreme piling of my foundation so I would not recommend this underneath make up unless you have time to let it sink into your skin first.

That being said, even with only one night time application, I feel that it’s benefited my skin. It’s similar to a lot of other HA products that I’ve used and my skin feels a lot better on days that I’ve used this serum. It feels a lot more hydrated, it’s plumper and I can see that my complexion is brighter too (though only slightly). Overall, Hyaluronic Acid is a product that I highly, highly recommend for everyone to implement into their skincare routine – and do your best not to miss it! I really do believe that it’s an essential.

For those who are a bit unsure about Hyaluronic Acid, or those who have more sensitive skin, definitely check out this Purito serum. It’s very simple and straight to the point, much like this review, and it will deliver the results that your skin needs without adding in anything that may irritate it.

So, here’s the full verdict!

WOULD I RECOMMEND?

Personally, I am going to keep using this serum and I won’t be skipping a day of it. I find that it’s a really great staple to have in my routine and, while it isn’t exceptionally better than other HA products that I’ve tried, it’s still really great! This product, and well Purito’s offerings in general, are really well suited for sensitive skin types so I would like to especially recommend this specific HA product for those who are sensitive or unsure about it.
