Review: Radian-C Vitamin Spot Ampoule (Laneige)

Skin brightening has been one of my main concerns for a long time and, with my genetic inclination towards getting dark spots, I don’t think this will change any time soon. As I had recently finished my Ole Henrikson C-Rush Brightening Gel Crème, I also figured it was the perfect time to introduce something new!

This is the Radian-C Vitamin Spot Ampoule from Laneige, a follow up product to their Radian-C Cream (which I have also tried). I hadn’t hadn’t heard about this before, since it hasn’t been officially launched in Australia yet, but found that it’s available on StyleKorean for USD$24 (on sale from USD$39 – so it’s a great deal).

Product Description

According to the product description, this is a spot correcting ampoule which contains the trademarked Radian-C 3x Blend™ (a multivitamin blend of 17.6% Pure Vitamin C, Vitamin C Derivatives and Niacinamide/Vitamin B3) – it has powerful antioxidant effects to help eliminate dark spots and promote radiance.

This is recommended for people wanting to reduce dark spots, brighten skin or for those wanting an antioxidant product with low risk of irritation. The main product claims are:

• 3x more powerful brightening effects (in comparison to their their previous ampoule): this is due to the new Radian-C 3x Blend™ and results should be visible in just 10 days
• Triple blemish care: Gives radiant results as an all-in-one care for blemishes (dark spots), skin texture and skin clarity level (dullness)
• Immediately strengthens the skin barrier: This is great help for those who may have sensitive skin, especially when it comes to the use of pure Vitamin C

It’s also recommended to use this in conjunction with the Radian C-Cream for even greater antioxidant effects and, for the sake of this review, I’ve tested it out both together and alone!

Packaging

The Radian-C Vitamin Spot Ampoule comes in a fairly small dropper bottle – it only contains 10mL of product, after all. However, a little really does go a long way and a single bottle is only meant to be kept for a month (as stated on the box, the product should be used within a month, most likely due to the Vitamin C denaturing).

The actual design of the packaging is pretty basic and probably not as exciting as other Laneige products. The external box is nice with the signature matte finish and a similar clean design to their other products. However, there were definitely some compromises made when it came to the actual bottle. Since this product is Vitamin C based, it is necessary to make the bottle opaque to slow down denaturing. In this sense, the bottle doesn’t have the usual luxurious feel that I come to expect from Laneige, but it’s still highly functional.

However, the material is of a good quality and seems to be able to keep the productly fairly cool during winter seasons (I’ve been lazy and not refrigerating it). It’s also lightweight with no spill issues, so would be good for travelling.

Personal Experiences

This product has a thin, watery texture that absorbs into skin immediately, so it’s easy to layer other products over this. It also has a very light citrus scent, but is mostly not noticeable. When it comes to application, I tend to use around 3-4 drops, applying directly onto my face and then patting in with my hands. As it is a vitamin based product, I only use this as part of my night routine.

The main claims for the Radian-C Vitamin Spot Ampoule was brightening, improving texture and radiance – and it does a pretty good job of this on it’s own. I have a fairly large pimple scar that I’m working on lightening, as well as my usual sun spots, and I can definitely see that this is helping. Results are visible within 10 days but, to be very honest, it’s still a gradual process. That is, unless…

…you pair this with their Radian-C Cream as well! These two are so perfect together – the ampoule goes on first and then the cream, with a very rich and moisturising texture, over the top. My complexion was much brighter in just two days and there’s significant lighting of my scarring too (though nothing on my stubborn sun spots yet). When paired together, the level of Vitamin C may be quite strong but I had no reactions or issues myself.

I’ll definitely be continuing to use this, but as a pair rather than alone. Here’s the verdict!

WOULD I RECOMMEND?

I would recommend pairing this with the Radian-C Cream – the two are an incredible pair and give stunning results so quickly too. Functionality wise, the ampoule is still good on it’s own too (just better together!)

Something to really consider is the price point: when it’s on sale, the price point of the Radian-C Vitamin Spot Ampoule is pretty similar to other brands. Laneige is a high end brand so is usually more expensive, but I think that they are managing the lower price point by making it a fraction of the usual size.

However, I personally don’t think that this means you are getting ‘less’. Since vitamin ampoules can only be used for approximately one month after opening, there’s actually a lot of waste when you purchase larger bottles (or you will end up using it past the point of denaturing, when the vitamins actually lose their efficacy). Smaller bottles are a better option for me as I often change up my skincare too.
