It took me nearly two months to write this review and, honestly, I am sincerely so sorry to the team at Uniqso that it took me so long to photograph and put down into words how much I love these colour lenses that they sent around to me. For those who have been following me on Instagram, you will know that I was pretty sick recently and had to slow down on a lot of my content and even social media – it’s taken me a long time to feel better and, even now, there are some days that I wake up feeling exhausted. After two weeks of being in bed all the time, another week or two of recovery and getting used to being in the world again, my skin then chose that opportune time to have a major break out from this Hemish product and so it was a struggle to get anything done!
That being said, I want to give a special thank you not only to Uniqso who generously let me choose a pair of lenses to review, but also didn’t chase me up at all during this time and have been so patient with me. In the following review, I’ll give you guys a peek at this pair of pretty grey lenses that I’ve been sporting lately!
That being said, please excuse the horrible state of my skin in these photos. I was still recovered from my break out and, since I told myself to stop over retouching my photos, I tried not to do too much to them.
Ready? Lets go!
For those unfamiliar with Uniqso, they are an online store that sells a lot of coloured contact lenses. They seem to specialise in cosplay products and so a lot of their lenses are more striking; they also carry a lot of character lenses (think Tokyo Ghoul) as well as wigs and costumes. Going onto their site to browse is such heaven for my inner geek. I love Japanese anime and manga, and I adore looking at cosplay costumes, though I haven’t had the chance to dress up before.
Looking through their catalogue, I chose to go with the Sweety Charm Crystal Grey lenses which are a more ‘natural’ colour – that is, without any cosplay elements, but still looked a lot brighter and more stand out that I was used to wearing. The lenses come with a free lens case (which is great since I always run out of them) and come packaged in two seperate sealed packs. Unlike the previous lenses that I’ve used, these come in a plastic case rather than a glass bottle and I actually much prefer this. There is less of a chance that you’ll cut yourself on it and it’s a lot easier to open.
Once I had opened them up and put them in the case, I noticed that they were practically white! If you look at the photo above carefully, the lenses are actually already in there but they are so light that you can’t see it properly. I couldn’t really tell what the pattern on them was until I put them in but – once I did – I was so surprised at how bright it looked on my eyes.
Here’s some photos!
I specifically went looking for a set of lenses that didn’t have a dark rim and I really like the design of these because I think that they look a lot more natural. Although I’m obviously wearing lenses since they’re gray, they don’t have that doll-like circle lenses effect – which I like, but this is also a really good option to have around. I am more comfortable wearing these sort of lenses out daily, as I think they work with both light and heavy make up.
On my super dark eyes, they also came out very light and so I think that this would suit all eye colours. Here are the specs for these lenses:
Diameter 14.5mm
Base Curve 8.6mm
Lifespan 12 months
Water content 38%
Although my make up (and skin!) in the above photos really weren’t great, I did end up wearing these lenses out a couple more times afterwards to special events and I was surprised at how comfortable they were to wear even though my eyes were tired and a bit dry. I wore them for a long time without any trouble and only took them out later on because I felt like I was about to fall asleep.
The service from Uniqso was great as well. They’re very responsive and delivery was fast. These lenses are pretty affordable – they retail at AUD$26.11. The quality and look is also great! I love them! The only thing is that, since these lenses don’t have a dark rim, they don’t have as much of a eye enlargement effect. I personally don’t mind that but, for those who are used to wearing doll circle lenses, that’s something to keep in mind.
Here’s the final verdict!
