If you’re a fan of k-beauty then you’d definitely heard of Beauty of Joseon before! This brand is was inspired by a 19th Century encyclopedia, which detailed skincare secrets of upperclass Korean women from that time – hence the traditional, ‘Joseon’ concept. I’ve actually had my eye on them for a long time but, considering how many people have been raving about them, could never decide where to start. And, of course, this is always a problem best fixed during Christmas! Beauty of Joseon had released a limited edition 2021 Holiday Set, which features a collection of their best selling items – all full sized.
So whether you’re looking to try out a whole range of products, or maybe you’re a long-standing fan and need some more product back ups, this is a great deal to be looking into. This set is currently on sale at StyleKorean for just USD$27.90 (originally USD$91), so now’s the time!
Head on over quick if you want to pick this one up, and keep reading for more information on what’s in this Holiday Set.
Packaging & Description
This limited edition 2021 Holiday Set comes housed in a simple, lightweight paper box. This box is actually made from 100% sugar cane, making it an eco-friendly alternative to the usually excessive, plastic packaging. It’s fully sealed with a perforated edge for you to tear off – which is pretty fun. In addition to this, all products are then individually packaged too, so you’re getting the exact same value as when you purchase individually.
Whilst it isn’t a full skincare routine, this kit does include four of their most popular products
- Radiance Cleansing Balm
- Low pH Rich Face and Body Cleansing Bar
- Glow Deep Serum
- Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics
The Glow Deep Serum and Radiance Cleansing Balm are also available at StyleKorean individually, though the others are currently sold out.
Radiance Cleansing Balm
Easily one of their most popular products, the Radiance Cleansing Balm has been recommended to me so many times! With a cruelty-free and vegan formula, this is described as a soft, balm-type formula to help melt away make up and lift excess sebum and skin impurities. It has non-irritating ingredients, free of fragrance and essential oils, and also claims to provide long-lasting moisture. This oil-based cleanser step is absolutely essential for people who wear make up often, and I also recommend following it up with a water-based cleanser (or the next product) for a two-step cleanse.
Additionally, this version of the cleanser has also been ‘renewed’ – this one features a lift-off lid to minimise hassle from the original cap and also has been reformulated to better withstand the high moisture air of a bathroom environment. It also has a matching white spatula. Unfortunately there’s no secure way of storing that but you can keep it into the tub if you don’t mind it getting a little greasy.
Low pH Rice Face and Body Cleansing Bar
As a second cleanser, or for something that is suited for both the face and body, there is also the Low pH Rice Face and Body Cleanser. This formula is gentle, hypoallergenic and is also mildly acidic, giving it a similar pH level to skin. This works to keep the skin mantle balanced, preventing dryness and moisture loss. With a formula that is also free of fragrances and essential oils, this claims to be suitable for the whole family.
Additionally, two of the main ingredients include Rice Bran Extract, which is rich in Vitamins B and E, as well as Olive Oil to keep skin moisturised even after cleansing. It also contains small, Black Sesame grains. These are actually visible in the soap bar and act as both an antioxidant and to provide rich nutrients for the skin.
Glow Deep Serum
For a boost of hydration, and also those who are concerned with pigmentation and skin brightening, the Glow Deep Serum is going to be a fun one to try out. This is described as a lightweight serum, containing a combination of 68% Rice Bran Water and 2% Arbutin.
Rice Brand Water is also called ‘Migamsu,’ and was used as a sort of daily toner by court ladies in the Joseon Dynasty. It contains a number of nutrients to help brighten your skin tone. Arbutin is also used as it inhibits the formation of melanocytes, working to reduce pigmentation from sun damage. In order to boost the moisturising benefits, a Grain Complex of Glycerin, Panthenol, Black Soybean, Barley, Black Sesame and Mung Bean Extract was also added.
The Beauty of Joseon serums can be used individually or layered up according to skin concerns. If you do want to mix serums though, it’s important to also be aware of skin sensitivities – so take it slow!
Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics
Give your sun all day protection with Beauty of Joseon’s Relief Sun. This chemical sunscreen has rating of SPF 50+ PA++++ and is also formulated with EWG green level ingredients, meaning that this gentle formula is also suitable for sensitive skin. It has both calming and brightening ingredients, as well as containing 30% Rice Extract and a Grain Probiotics Complex, helping to nourish skin’s natural strength. The formula also claims to have a lightweight cream texture, with a moisturising finish that doesn’t pill nor create a white cast.
I’m personally a fan of chemical sunscreens as they generally work best under makeup. Additionally, although some UV filters used in chemical sunscreens can cause reactions for sensitive skin, the Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics uses all EWG safe ingredients – making this also safe for sensitive skin.
Are you going to be picking up this Beauty of Joseon 2021 Holiday Kit? I think it’s a great deal for people who are new to the brand and don’t know where to start – like me! I’ll definitely be slowly working my way through these products in the next few months – especially the Glow Deep Serum. I’m just a sucker for brightening products!
If you’re keen to pick this up, head on over to StyleKorean. It’s only USD$27.90 at the moment (originally USD$91), and it’s limited edition so be quick.
