I have tried out a handful of Klairs products since getting into kbeauty and I really like their simple approach to their brand and formulations. Of course, not everything is going to work for everyone – it all comes down to skin type and personal preference really. However, I trust the brand a lot so I’m always down to try something new from them.

One of the products that had been catching my eye on Instagram is the Youthful Glow Sugar Mask. I have actually been eying since the first launch but it was not yet available on the main Wishtrend website – it’s here now though and I’m so glad that I can finally satisfy my sugary curiosity! Although it is described as a sugar mask, it is actually multi-purpose and can also be used as a scrub.

It is marketed as being suitable for all skin types but reviews seem to say this is more targeted for dry to normal skin. Since I lean more to the oily side, I was more limited with how I can use the product. However, I have been trying it out for a while and I’m really confident that I can give this a thorough review!

So, if you want to check out the Youthful Glow Sugar Mask then pop onto Wishtrend (where it’s selling for USD$24). Otherwise, here’s the review!

Product Description

According to the Wishtrend website, the Youthful Glow Sugar Mask is a multipurpose product – it can exfoliate and be used as a nourishing mask. It is described as “a low irritating sugar mask enriched with antioxidants from grapefruit and raspberry.” Some of the key ingredients include:

  • Grapefruit extract & Kaolin (Softens skin without irritation)
  • Shea Butter, Raspberry Oil & Jojoba (Leaves skin moisturised after wash off)
  • Calamine (Anti-inflammatory and soothing)

In addition to these points, this mask is also cruelty free, low pH, five free (i.e. it doesn’t contain Ethanol, Silicon, Steroids, or Artificial fragrance and colours) as well as vegan friendly.

To use the Glow Sugar Mask as a wash off mask, it is recommended to leave it on for approximately 10 minutes – which just gives enough time for the more nourishing ingredients to deeply treat any dry or tired skin.

To use it as an exfoliator, it’s instructed to apply to wet skin and then massage in gently. I personally preferred to apply it dry though (which gives better ‘grip’) and then massage in with wet hands – allowing the mask to give a more gentle exfoliating experience.

Klairs has a very simple approach to design, which you will notice in most of their products. This means that the design is generally more basic, but I like that they focus on the quality of their formulation without compromising on their packaging too.

The Youthful Glow Sugar Mask comes in a white and orange unit carton with a simple illustration of the tub on the side. The type design on all other sides is neat and clean too – a small detail which ensures that the product looks professional. The box is made of a good quality cardboard with a matte finish, as well as some glossy spot UV accents. The inside of it is also printed in a matching orange.

Opening it up, you’ll find a plastic spatula and a smooth white tub. The material feels decent and it isn’t too heavy nor flimsy. I did notice that the shape of it was a bit strange – because the opening is smaller, it may become more difficult to use the product once you get past that ‘curve’ edge (so you would need to use your hands). I like that it has a flat top and base though, making it suitable for stacking.

Overall, I like the design and quality of the packaging. I have some concerns about the ease-of-use for the tub shape, but it isn’t too big of a deal. Small details in the design give the product a professional feel, which also makes the brand seem more reliable – it’s a great thing to see for an indie brand! I personally feel that this sort of approach is much more effective than just a gimmicky design.

Personal Experiences

You can see the texture and colour of the Youthful Glow Sugar Mask both on the above and bottom photo. The product has a pale pink colour with a thick, balm-like formula. It also has sugar granules throughout (which you can see clearly in the below photo). Since the texture is so thick, it’s actually quite difficult to spread out over skin but is mostly fine if used on damp skin.

The formula has a sweet, sugary scent which is pleasant (and delicious) but also not overwhelming. It’s barely detectable once the product is actually applied too.

As a nourishing mask, I felt that this mask was extremely dense! It’s very moisturising but also felt somewhat too heavy for my skin type – even if you don’t need to leave it on for too long. I think that people with super dry skin would enjoy using this but I think it’s better to use a specialised wash off mask.

To use this as an exfoliator, the product just needs to be worked in with water – which makes application so much easier. I would consider the sugar granules to be a medium size (not super fine) but it can be ‘melted’ with damp fingers for a more gentle scrub. Compared to some other sugar masks (such as the Black Sugar Honey Mask), it doesn’t seem to have as much sugar in it but it is just as effective.

This is advertised as a multipurpose product but I think that I got less versatility out of it because of my skin type – it’s really too much for me as a mask and I felt like it might have broken me out.

However, it is impressive as a scrub. It leaves me with a smooth and soft skin, as well as immediately brightening my complexion – most likely because it’s removing dead skin cells. It’s also gentle enough to be used daily with no irritation.

Here’s the verdict!

A nourishing mask/exfoliator with sugar particles

  • Simple and good quality packaging
  • Pleasant and subtle scent
  • Super nourishing and moisturising on skin
  • Exfoliates and removes dead skin cells
  • Immediate results
  • Gentle enough for daily use

  • Thick texture can be hard to apply
  • May be too heavy for combination to oily skin types

  • PRICE POINT | 3/5
  • PACKAGING | 3/5
  • SCENT | 4/5
  • MASKING | 2/5

I liked this product as an exfoliator but it was just too heavy for my skin type to use as a mask. However, I still think that this is worth checking out if you take into account your skin type and what you want to use this for.

The Youthful Glow Sugar Mask is available from the Wishtrend website for USD$24 – you can also get free standard shipping for all orders over AUD$60 too!
